Team Goes 3-1 for the Week

January 22, 2010, 10:53am

The Panthers defeated Bend, McNary and McKay in dual meet action this week, but fell narrowly to #3 West Salem.  Wednesday night, the Panthers defeated Bend 52-20 reviving and old IMC rivalry for the team's 2010 Senior Night.  Seniors Sean Soliz, Nick Coles and Nathan Herber were able to come away with victories for the team.

On Thursday night, the Panthers traveled to Salem to wrestle the last three duals in the CVC.  The team kicked off the night with a tough victory over McNary 37-24.  Redmond followed that win up by defeating McKay 54-23.  During this dual, the squad was able to get victories from some substitutes for this dual in David Peebles and Matt Rogers.  Finally, the team dropped their last dual of the night to the 3rd ranked Titans of West Salem 34-43.  The Titans return six state placers in their line-up.

The Panthers are at the Reser TOC next week, then finish up the regular season with a dual at Crook County.

Young Team Competes at Bend

January 17, 2010, 2:42pm

Due to match limitations, the RHS wrestling team was without some of its regular starters, but this didn't dissuade the young squad from competing hard.  The Panthers were led by Senior Nathan Herber who placed 3rd at 189lbs.  Also placing for the Panthers were Ty George-5th; Brandon Short 3rd; Ben Coles 5th; Tanner Barichio 4th; Zach Rystedt 5th; David Peebles 5th; Colby Fultz 4th; Austin Alvarez 5th; Joseph Asis 6th and Scott Adame 6th.

For many of our placers this was their first placing at a Varsity level tournament including 5 freshman who placed and two sophomores.  Next up the Panthers will dual Bend on Jan 20th before heading to Salem to take on McNary, West Salem and McKay.

Preparation Meets Opportunity

January 11, 2010, 12:10pm

The Panthers were able to parlay a three way tie for 2nd place in their pool into a 2nd place finish at the Oregon Wrestling Classic Jan 9th at the Expo Center in Redmond.  The Panthers took the 2nd seed on a tie breaker and then defeated Roseburg and Tualitin to earn a berth in the finals versus Newberg.  For complete results please go to the Oregon Wrestling Classic's website.

Coast Classic Results

Culver-The 2nd String went to another Varsity tournament at Culver High School where they competed against some of the top small schools in the state of Oregon.  The very young Panther squad finished 5th out of 16 teams.  This is a very respectable finish for a group of mostly freshman versus some of the best individuals in the state.  Leading the Panther JV was Tyler George, 103 lbs freshman with a 3rd place performance.
